Hey Grandpa, What’s for Supper? – Side Dish

8DB3470F-7490-444A-AA5F-D75E0EAD2A5BI thought I give you an option for a side dish this time.  This is a side that is always requested at our family reunion and church gatherings.  It is simple but delicious and you can stick it in a crock pot to keep warm if you are making it for a larger gathering.  It is also easy to adjust the amounts, we have made this original recipe and also increased it to feed 50 people. Just something different that you might want to try.

Sweet and Sour Green Beans

¾ c. sugar

¾ c. apple cider vinegar

1 quart green beans

Cook green beans and drain juice, if using fresh green beans; if using pre-cooked or canned green beans just drain the juice.  Heat the sugar and vinegar until the sugar is dissolved, mix in the green beans or pour over the green beans and heat until the beans are hot.  Add crumbled, fried bacon to the top if desired. You can easily put the beans into a crock pot and pour the hot sugar/vinegar mixture over them and heat on low.  Don’t add the bacon until ready to serve if making in the crock pot.
