I recently enjoyed catching up with my good friend and former co-trainer, Susan Hunter. Before she opened a state-of-the-art indoor dog park and boarding facility in Nevada, Susan was a successful elder law attorney in Indiana. We first met through Lawyers with Purpose® (LWP), an organization dedicated to helping estate and elder law attorneys create efficient, client-focused practices.
Susan and I spent years working together, teaching attorneys nationwide how to run their firms more effectively. Our goal was simple: provide excellent legal services while making the process smoother for both attorneys and clients. Now, Susan is applying those same business principles to something completely different—caring for dogs!
A New Chapter: BARK! Canine Club & Resort
After stepping away from the legal world, Susan and her husband embarked on a new adventure: BARK! Canine Club & Resort. This 14-acre complex in Nevada is a haven for dogs, featuring a top-notch boarding, grooming, and training facility. They even have a 5,000-square-foot indoor dog park, designed to keep dogs comfortable and safe from the desert heat.
Their passion for animals doesn’t stop there. They also started the Mesquite BARK Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping dogs across Southern Nevada and Utah.
The Journey into Elder Law
Susan’s path to elder law began with a deeply personal experience. When her grandmother needed help with legal issues, she hesitated to seek an attorney. That hesitation sparked something in Susan—a desire to make elder law more approachable and trustworthy. Eventually, she found her way to LWP, where she and I worked side by side, training attorneys on a systematized approach to estate planning, asset protection, and elder law.
The Power of a Maintenance Program
One of the biggest lessons Susan taught me was the importance of a maintenance program for estate planning clients. She helped me see how ongoing support and updates could provide long-term benefits for families. That insight led to the creation of The Red Wagon Club, our maintenance program at Bellomo & Associates. Through it, we ensure that our client’s estate plans remain up-to-date and effective, no matter what life throws their way.
Why This Matters for You
The work Susan and I did through LWP wasn’t just about running better law firms—it was about helping families get the guidance they need. The best attorneys aren’t just focused on drafting documents; they’re committed to providing ongoing support, education, and peace of mind. That’s exactly what we do at Bellomo & Associates.
If you want to make sure your estate plan is built to last, we invite you to attend one of our free workshops. We’ll walk you through the essentials of estate planning, Medicaid planning, special needs planning, and more—all in a way that’s easy to understand and designed to help you protect what matters most.
