At Bellomo & Associates, we often talk about our passion for education and service, and Attorney Jay Metzbower, Jr., embodies both. With over a decade of experience in civil service and law enforcement before joining our team, Jay brings a unique perspective and deep compassion to his work in elder law and estate planning.
A Journey Rooted in Service
Jay hails from the suburbs of Baltimore and spent 12 years serving his community as a Hartford County Sheriff. His career in law enforcement shaped his values: commitment, loyalty, and a deep sense of duty to protect others. Over time, Jay realized he wanted to serve his community in a different way—one that allowed him to help people prepare for the future and protect what matters most.
That calling led him to law school. It was there that he met Jeff Bellomo and was introduced to the world of elder law and estate planning. The connection was instant. Jay quickly realized that this area of law aligned perfectly with his desire to serve, educate, and empower others.
Making Complex Concepts Understandable
Jay now leads many of Bellomo & Associates’ educational workshops, where he’s known for his approachable, easy-to-understand explanations of complex legal concepts. Whether it’s Medicaid planning, special needs trusts, or asset protection, Jay’s ability to communicate helps families feel more confident and in control of their future.
His mission? To provide every client with the same level of care and respect he would want for his own family. It’s a philosophy that echoes through every consultation, workshop, and planning session he leads.
A Passion for Family and the Open Road
Outside of the office, Jay is a proud father of two young sons and an avid motorcycle enthusiast. He’s ridden through over 20 states and still finds time to support his beloved Baltimore Orioles and Ravens. Whether he’s in the courtroom, a workshop, or on the road, Jay brings energy and enthusiasm to everything he does.
Looking Ahead: 2026 Estate Tax Changes and More
In a recent podcast episode, Jay and Jeff discussed anticipated changes to the federal estate tax set to take effect in 2026. These changes could significantly impact how families plan and protect their assets, especially in blended family situations, which often require extra care and nuance. It’s another reminder of how crucial it is to work with attorneys who are actively engaged in the latest laws and best practices.
Unfortunately, not all law school curricula keep pace with evolving elder law strategies. That’s why our team prioritizes continuing education—not just for ourselves, but for professionals in related fields, too.
